At WHOA, we're all about sharing experiences, connecting, and supporting local women in every possible way throughout our adventures. One of the ways we do this in Tanzania is by inviting local women to join our Kilimanjaro climbs. Sharing the experience with them, and seeing the mountain they grew up with through their eyes gives our adventurers a richer understanding of the women from this region and this amazing part of the world. Embarking on this epic journey with such an international group is one of the many things that makes WHOA's Kilimanjaro climbs extra special! With no further ado, let us introduce you to the 2 amazing Tanzanian ladies who will be joining our Kilimanjaro Full Moon Summit Hike + Yoga 2017 group: Ngais and Isha!
Karen, our Tanzanian WHOA GAL, and Isha
MEET ISHA
Isha (Mwanaisha) is 28 and lives in the outskirts of Moshi Tanzania in Milicita with her husband Erick, son Lazarus age 6, and daughter Abigail age 3. Isha does not work outside the home, she stays home with her lucky and sweet kids. Her mom is from the Pare tribe and her father is from the Haya tribe. They married and had a house full of daughters! After secondary school, Isha went to study in Dar es Salaam, earning a degree in finance management. When her sister Zurieth was training to become a Kilimanjaro mountain guide, Isha did not think it was possible! Zurieth’s success in her achievement in becoming a guide has Isha inspired to also experience the mountain. But now, some in her life do not think she can, so she is here with us to DO IT!
MEET NGAIS
Ngais Karero is 26 and grew up in a Masai village with her mother, father, brothers and sister. She went to school in town, but always went back to the village to be with her family during school leave. After secondary school, Ngais went on to study at Arusha Journalism Training College. Currently she is working for Aloft Balloon Safari company, where they send up hot air balloons for safari guests out in Tanzania’s parks Serengeti and Tarangire, as well as some locations in Kenya. She has a goal to spread awareness in her Masai community about taking young girls to the schools, about their health, about fgml, about early and forced marriage and about understanding their value as ladies. Ngais has been dreaming of an opportunity to experience a trek on Kilimanjaro for a long time now with her love of adventure and nature.
